Laurin Hunt, owner of Biggby Coffee in Fenton, used to pour concrete for a living. Now, she’s pouring coffee.

Store manager Christina Bent of Linden, also in the construction trades as an electrician, is trading in her overalls for an apron – at least temporarily.

“We’re just two ‘construction gals’ pouring coffee,” said Hunt. Also helping Hunt get the business “up and running” is her daughter, Kayla Hoffman.

Hunt’s 15-year career in construction has prepared her for the long hours and rigors of owning her own business, which opened its doors on May 6.

With a menu boasting 30 gourmet coffees, teas and frozen drinks, there is something for everyone.

Biggby Coffee offers “the world’s best coffee,” according to the company motto.

“You don’t have to love coffee to love Biggby Coffee, but it helps,” Hunt said.

Visitors to the new Fenton store will love the warm, rich tones of Biggby Coffee’s interior. Comfortable seating, both indoors and outdoors, as well as wireless Internet create an inviting “coffee” experience.

“I’m a big coffee drinker and started out as a customer at Biggby Coffee in Lansing, then began working as a barista there,” said Hunt. “Before I knew it, I moved up to the position of store leader and figured out that the Biggby business model was something I was willing to invest in.”

Hunt said she looked for a location in Fenton many months ago and has been thrilled with the response since its opening.

“Fenton is a beautiful community in which to do business,” she said. “I believe I have found a perfect location.”

Biggby Coffee of Fenton is located at 4009 Owen Rd. in the Shoppes at Silver Chase Plaza, near Mancino’s.

Nine varieties of brewed coffee are offered every day, including coffees with different origins and blends, both flavored and decaffeinated. “We also have excellent expresso,” said Hunt.

Coffee lovers will also enjoy the fresh, whole coffee beans that are available for either in-store grinding or taking home.

Other hot drinks on the menu include cappaccinos, mochas, chai teas, etc.

Biggby Coffee also offers fruit smoothies, as well as tea/smoothie combos known as Fruizen-T. Cider and lemonade are also offered.
Customers won’t leave Biggby’s hungry, either.

Morning breakfast lovers will enjoy yogurt/granola parfaits, a variety of bagels, including a breakfast bagel filled with turkey, cheese and eggs. Lunch-goers will enjoy a “grab and go” turkey and havarti cheese bagel.

Blueberry, chocolate chip and cinnamon crunch muffins round out the morning favorites (available all day), while bar cookies of many varieties attract “sweet lovers.”

Biggby Coffee in Fenton is the 92nd location of this rapidly expanding franchise, based in East Lansing.

Hunt is excited to have added 20 jobs to the local economy and is very pleased to present the new skills of her staff to the community.
