BIGGBY COFFEE LOCATION PARTNERS WITH LOCAL HOCKEY TEAM AND DONATES TO KALAMAZOO’S HOUSING RESOURCES, INC

Local store partners with the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team and supports HRI’s Walk for the Homeless

KALAMAZOO, Mich., Feb. 28, 2012 – BIGGBY COFFEE (5401 Portage Rd.) in Kalamazoo is teaming with the Kalamazoo Wings, the area’s mid-level professional ice hockey team, to raise money for Housing Resources, Inc. (HRI), an organization committed to eliminating homelessness in Kalamazoo County.

On Monday, March 12, from 4-5pm, Kalamazoo Wings’ players will be in the store helping the BIGGBY baristas make your favorite BIGGBY drinks! One dollar from every full priced Grande or Super specialty beverage purchased during this hour will be donated to HRI’s Walk for the Homeless, which raises money to assure housing for socially or economically vulnerable residents in Kalamazoo.

“We are very excited to work together with players from the hockey team and donate to HRI, who has been serving our community for more than 20 years,” Susan Peterson, store owner, said. “It’s great when local organizations can team together like this and help support a cause right here in our own community.”

The 5K Walk for the Homeless will take place on Saturday, March 24, along the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. With more than 300 participants last year, HRI is hoping to go above and beyond that this year and raise a total of $10,000 in the walk’s 22nd year.

“We are happy to do what we can to help spread the word about HRI and the Walk for the Homeless,” Peterson said. “We want to help them reach their goal and with the help of our awesome customers I know it’s possible. This is a great opportunity to meet players from the Kalamazoo Wings in a fun setting while enjoying your favorite BIGGBY drink and doing your part for the community at the same time.”

About BIGGBY COFFEE®
East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprises guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 144 cafes open or under contract across seven states including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.  For more information, visit www.biggby.com.
