BIGGBY COFFEE STORES IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN TEAM WITH GOODWILL
“Dollars for Jobs – Pass it Forward” campaign begins Sunday, Sept. 9

EAST LANSING, MI, Aug. 31, 2012 – More than 40 BIGGBY COFFEE locations in Southeast Michigan are teaming with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit to help put area residents back to work. Beginning Sunday, Sept. 9, BIGGBY fans can do their part by donating as little as a $1, to help fight unemployment in Southeast Michigan.

The initiative, called “Dollars for Jobs – Pass It Forward,” encourages community giving to provide training and employment opportunities for Metro Detroiters who need jobs. Continuing through Sunday, Sept. 30, residents can help by adding their $1 to donation envelopes that can be found in the Sunday editions of local Detroit newspapers or downloaded online. Once their dollar is added, the envelope is to be continually passed on so others can do the same.

Once an envelope contains at least $25, they are to be return to one of 43 participating BIGGBY COFFEE locations, where the returnee is then eligible for a special drink discount! The $25 in each envelope represents the approximate cost for Goodwill Industries to provide one day of job preparedness training and other support to an unemployed Metro Detroit resident.

“Teaming with the Goodwill and taking part in this fundraiser is a great opportunity for area BIGGBY COFFEE stores to get involved and help make a difference in our communities,” Livonia BIGGBY franchisee, Bob Perry, said. “We are excited to get the program started and hope to help make the largest impact possible.”

Metro Detroiters interested in supporting the “Dollars for Jobs – Pass It Forward” campaign can download an envelope or make a financial contribution directly and at: http://www.dollarsforjobs.org.

“The unemployment crisis in our community can seem overwhelming… and ‘Dollars for Jobs’ is the answer,” Lorna G. Utley, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, said. “This program demonstrates that a small donation can create progress when combined with the efforts of our friends and neighbors.”

About BIGGBY COFFEE®
East Lansing, Mich.-based BIGGBY® COFFEE opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. BIGGBY COFFEE introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprised guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY COFFEE has 157 cafes open or under contract across eight states including: Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Florida and Texas.  For more information, visit www.biggby.com.
