EAST LANSING — A key factor in the success seen by Biggby Coffee is the chain’s legion of franchise owners, said Biggby CEO Bob Fish, whose company was recently dubbed the fastest growing coffee chain in the United States.

These franchise owners are not coffee shop enthusiasts looking for a hobby — but savvy businesspeople who recognize Biggby as a solid investment, Fish said.

Many own and operate other franchises.

Store owners are also required to complete three weeks of training at company headquarters in East Lansing, and another 180 hours of on-the-job training.

“We were drawn to Biggby by its work philosophy and its energy, which we’ve found to be a great success in Jackson,” said Denise Morgan, who owns the Jackson store with three partners: Matt and Charlie Morgan and Brandon Ansel.

The four also own Roly Poly Sandwiches, which is adjacent to Biggby Coffee at 1025 N. Wisner St.

Great customer service is also a top priority for the owners.

“I feel our employees give as much of that as they do a great cup of coffee,” Morgan said.
